Composite fillings are used to treat tooth decay (cavities). Composite resin is closely matched to your natural tooth color for a virtually invisible dental restoration.
Inlays and onlays can be thought of as the middle ground between a dental filling and a dental crown. Instead of covering the entire tooth, inlays and onlays restore structure to a tooth with decay too large to treat with a filling, but not substantial enough to require a dental crown.
Porcelain dental crowns look and feel like your natural teeth. They are dental restorations that completely cover a severely damaged tooth to prevent loss of the tooth. Dental crowns are also used after root canals and to attach to dental implants.
Dental bridges restore gaps in smiles where several consecutive teeth are missing or need to be extracted. Dental bridges may attach to adjacent teeth, adjacent crowns, or adjacent dental implants (implant-supported bridge).
Dental implants help keep your jawbone strong, restore your biting, chewing, and speaking ability and look and function like natural teeth. Dental implants can replace a single missing tooth, multiple missing teeth in a row, or even an entire arch of teeth. Dr. Awad offers both mini and full-size dental implants.
A denture is a replacement for multiple missing teeth within the same (upper or lower) arch. A denture differs from a crown or bridge in that it does not rely on an existing tooth structure, and it completely replaces the missing teeth.
There are several different types of dentures:
Root canals are no longer dental procedures to be feared. Today, a root canal typically takes less than one hour. During your root canal therapy, the interior of the tooth will be cleaned and disinfected. Dr. Awad may reshape some of the root canals to prevent future infection before filling the tooth with a biocompatible material and protecting the tooth with a dental crown.
Tooth extractions are always a last resort. However, severe infections, dental trauma, and cracks in teeth may result in the need for an extraction. If you require an extraction, Dr. Awad will work with you to custom design a restorative treatment to replace the missing teeth.
Depending on the complexity of the extraction, Dr. Awad will gently loosen and remove the tooth.
Immediately following, gauze pads are placed for the patient to bite down on the tooth socket to apply pressure. Dr. Awad may place dissolvable and/or traditional stitches that may need to be removed at a follow-up appointment.
